New Orleans Saints get owned by Houston Texans for third-straight loss

Hoyer also reverted back to some bad tendencies he showed during the opening-week loss to Kansas City by holding on to the ball for too long and at times looking past easy completions underneath in favor of forcing something to a deeper route. “That’s a very high-powered offence with a very good quarterback and very good coaching staff…so it’s everybody doing their job”. Houston’s defense has been extremely inconsistent and there is no telling which defensive back they will assign to Snead.

With 68 1/2 career sacks J.J. Watt certainly doesn’t remember the details of every single one.

The Saints quarterback remembered that game, but didn’t realize he was part of Watt’s first sack.

Now while we realize Sean Payton is essentially a ‘defacto’ GM himself and wields as much power if not more than Loomis on personnel matters, we’re not calling for Payton to be fired simply because we don’t expect him to stay with the organization beyond this season.

Payton was certainly disappointed in the defeat, but wouldn’t say it was the most frustrated he’s been after a loss.

The Texans are No. 8 defensively and actually No. 13 offensively, thanks mostly to a surprising No. 6 passing offense with Brian Hoyer as the primary quarterback. He capped it with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Griffin to give Houston a score on the opening possession for the first time this season.

In the past 18 quarters of play Houston has allowed only two touchdowns and have held the Titans, Bengals and now Saints to just six points apiece, comparing that to the 44 points surrendered to the Dolphins a lot has changed in Houston. So far this season when Ellerbe plays, the Saints’ defense is good enough and New Orleans wins.

It takes a truly awful defense to make the Texans running game look efficient, but that’s what the Saints did for most of this game.

“You get in third-and-long against these guys, you’re asking for trouble because obviously they dial up the pass rush”, Brees said. The Saints switched defensive coordinators during their off week and hope the change can deliver a boost to a defense surrendering an NFL-high 31.5 points. Fueling that defense is Watt, the Texans’ freak-of-nature defensive end. The Texans quarterback finished 21 for 27 for 205 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. He finished with four catches for 72 yards. There are some things that I know when we watch on tape, we’re going to be upset about.

“Then, couple that with, I think, a real good secondary – experienced players, corners that are sudden with good ball skills”.

Houston’s Cecil Short scored on a three yard run to give Houston a 14-0 lead. The Jaguars dropped to 4-7 on the year and would need to both go on a great run and need the Colts and Texans to falter down the stretch this year. But the Saints couldn’t move the ball and had to punt. We got the field goal at the half (to pull to within 14-6).

However, while the defence began to improve as the first half wore on, Drew Brees’s offense was continually stifled by the Texans and the NFC South outfit were limited to two Kai Forbath field goals – one from a career-best 57 yards – to bring themselves to within eight at half time.
