Adam Lambert Fans Call On Organizer Of Singapore Concert To Keep Singer

Almost 20,000 people have signed a petition to stop Adam Lambert heading Singapore’s New Year Countdown concert.

The people against the performance urged organisers MediaCorp to rethink their decision, arguing that Adam is “hardly the kind of performer to send off our historic Jubilee year”.

The petition cites various incidents involving Lambert such as kissing a male band member on stage during the live telecast of the American Music Awards in 2009, and his latest music video for Another Lonely Night, that according to the petition, “features female showgirls and male strippers performing acts of indecency”.

“Singaporeans can enjoy a good show with their consciences being affronted by lewd acts in the name of entertainment”.

Apart from Mr Lambert who is scheduled to be performing in the show hosted by MediaCorp DJs Mike Kasem and Jean Danker, other performers such as THELIONCITYBOY, Nat Ho and Fauzie Laily would also be featured in the countdown show along with a special performance by the cast of TANGLIN.

“Countdown 2016 is our annual iconic, public event for Singaporeans to come together to celebrate New Year’s Eve, as one”. He says his performance will be “an entirely new show experience for my fans that is kicking off in Singapore”.

Meanwhile, a counter petition was also started on November 26 and quickly generated more support for Adam Lambert.

With almost as many signatures as the disconfirming one, the petition begs promoters to keep the singer as headliner to demonstrate, “that Singapore is a country that shuns discrimination and promotes diverse inclusive points of view”.

This petitioned was able to get nearly 25,000 signatures when it closed, while the opposing petition struggled to get the 20,000 signature goal.

Commenting on the online petition, Debra Soon, head of MediaCorp’s Family (English) and Premier Segments, said: “Celebrate 2016 will be suitable for family audiences and conform with broadcast regulations”. In a statement, he added that his show is “based primarily on new material, and it promises to be a thoughtful and sophisticated insight into the pursuit of happiness and self-worth”.
