The Wythenshawe fighter shocked the world by defeating Wladimir Klitschko on Saturday night in Dusseldorf with a unanimous points decision.
Tyson Fury, 27, has won 25 of 25 fights in his boxing career, 18 of those wins were by knockout. The excitement, jubilation, no sleep all night.
“I knew I could come here and upset the apple cart”. He is getting no opportunities from us…
‘My son boxed well, he boxed a game plan, he showed courage and determination… It’s a great honour to be sat here with all these belts as the heavyweight champion of the world. Fans shouldn’t look anywhere as it looks like Klitschko will exercise his rematch clause. “Let’s laugh at his name, shall we?”, quipped Fury. “Wladimir Klitschko was the No 1 in the division”. Probably the pound-for-pound king, whatever that means. “I’m a true natural fighter”.
Asked if he thought he was a role model to kids, Fury replied: “I’m not bothered, it’s up to them”.
Klitschko, on the other hand, admitted that he was not himself during the fight, adding that Fury’s four-inch reach advantage was the main factor that gave him trouble during the actual fight.
“If I can do half as well as Wladimir Klitschko, I’ll be a great champion”.
“There will be a rematch”, Klitschko said via Sky Sports. The Ukrainian, 39, had held the division with an iron grip for 9½ years.
“After the fight, I had it from good sources not to touch anything in the changing room because they might try to drug me”, Fury said. We’ll see on December 12 just what a talent he is.
Mancunian Fury, a 4/1 underdog, baffled Klitschko with a stylish, measured performance in which he utilised his height and youth perfectly to earn a superb win.
