And so it has become more convenient to, say, shop from grandma’s living room on Thanksgiving Day or from the airport waiting area on Black Friday than waiting for Cyber Monday to roll around.

Still, the day after the holiday remains the more popular day to go to the mall. We opened two hours earlier this year. And it expected sales overall for November and December to rise 3.7 percent to $630.5 billion compared with the same period a year ago.

Republican candidate and Ohio Gov. John Kasich also offered Black Friday deals, giving 15% off with the code “FRIDAY”.

Online sales are definitely becoming a bigger factor. It simply mean that it won’t be available online, but so long as you shop in-store between 6-7PM on Thanksgiving Thursday evening, you’re guaranteed to secure the item at the $698 price tag.

Retailer Target saw record online sales on the holiday as it gave access to its Black Friday deals online early Thanksgiving morning.

The survey, released Thursday night, said 10% of those polled indicated traffic in their stores is down from previous year, while 90% indicated traffic is the “same” or “stronger”.

“We believe Thanksgiving shopping was a bust”, analysts at Suntrust Robinson Humphrey said in a research note.
