Christopher McQuarrie Confirmed to Direct Mission: Impossible 6

We reported earlier this month that Christopher McQuarrie was being eyed to write and possibly direct Mission: Impossible 6, and he has now confirmed this news by taking to Twitter and writing, “Mission: Accepted”, using the hashtag “MI6”.

Production on Mission: Impossible 6 is expected to begin in August next year, so chances are that we’ll see the next instalment as soon as 2017.

Tom Cruise is continuing his bromance with writer/director Christopher McQuarrie, as after Jack Reacher the star brought his on board for Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation. But for the followup to this summer’s hit “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation”, Cruise has chose to forgo tradition and employ the director of that film, a longtime pal.

This is the first time the Mission: Impossible franchise will be repeating directors, as producer/star Tom Cruise was keen on changing things up behind the camera for each installment, allowing every filmmaker to make the sequel his own.

McQuarrie won an Oscar for his original screenplay for “The Usual Suspects” and also wrote the scripts for “Jack The Giant Slayer” (2013) and “The Tourist” (2010).

As a big fan of Cruise and McQuarrie, I’m psyched by this news.

Mission: Impossible 6 has no release date yet.
