49ers 13, Cardinals 19: Grades

At this point, it may be hard to predict the changes that will follow the 2015 season, as Kaepernick’s destination will depend on several personnel and salary cap factors.

Maybe they set the bar too high for themselves, but we’ve come to expect more from Arizona’s secondary, haven’t we?

“I’m taking a lot of heat for that and I could care less”.

“I knew if I got behind the second level, Carson was going to be able to get me the ball”, Nelson said.

The 49ers drew four penalties in the end zone in a seven-snap sequence, ultimately leading to the Cardinals’ first touchdown, a 1-yard run by David Johnson in the third quarter.

Larry Fitzgerald had 10 catches for 66 yards, surpassing Hall of Famer Steve Largent for 16th place on the career list for yards receiving and moving him into 12th place for receptions past Randy Moss.

Not to be deterred, the 49ers came back capping off a 77-yard drive with a Vance McDonald 8-yard touchdown strike. Anquan Boldin caught an 18-yard pass on fourth-and-20 to clinch the win for Arizona. “But we’ve got to win the game”.

“They had awful calls all game”, 49ers guard Alex Boone said. “That’s a huge relief”.

“It isn’t in my character in charge the refs, however man, there have been some questionable calls, some very questionable ones”, Reid stated. “But what can you do?”

Palmer said Dial deserved the flag. Mathieu said Palmer had his teammates laughing – nervously. Dial hit Palmer, and Palmer’s helmet jostled up.

“I’ve got to find a way to get rid of the ball”, Gabbert conceded.

There was plenty to dissect from the 49ers’ 19-13 loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday at Levi’s Stadium.

The Cardinals backpedaled to the 7, but Palmer scored to put Arizona ahead.

“I didn’t think he was ever going to get there”, a relieved Arians said of Palmer. “Oh child, get the oxygen out”. In Week 3, Arizona rolled to a 47-7 victory over the 49ers. Gabbert is not worth starting next week at Chicago, but he should at least give San Francisco a chance to win.

Gabbert moved the offense to the Arizona 30-yard line, but he took a crucial 10-yard sack on third down.

“Oh yeah. No question”, Jefferson said. “They cannot block all of us”.

A day later, Tomsula still thought Dial did the legal thing. “It was a good little switch-up”.

On fourth-and-20, Gabbert hit Boldin over the center, however he was stopped two yards in need of the primary down. Catanzaro missed the PAT, but Gabbert couldn’t rally his troops closer than the Cardinals’ 22-yard-line.

Three of the Seahawks’ five touchdowns came after interceptions. “It’s just the way it goes sometimes”.

EMPTY SEATS: Nearly an hour into the game at $1.3 billion, second-year Levi’s Stadium, the venue looked about 75 percent full even if listed as a 70,799 sellout. Tramaine Brock surrendered a 48-yard catch to John Brown at the 49ers’ 23.

One of the critical non-calls took place on the Cardinals’ final drive – the one culminating in Palmer’s game-winning touchdown.

While quarterback Blaine Gabbert led the 49ers to 368 total yards on offense, the team was 0-for-9 on third downs.

He was criticised for staying loyal to Colin Kaepernick when the quarterback was clearly struggling for form, and will not want to give his critics further ammunition by doing the same thing again and expecting different results.

No apologies were coming out of the Cardinals’ locker room Sunday afternoon, and there wasn’t any anger.
