Leicester City v Manchester United Premier League

Louis van Gaal has defended his Manchester United side’s performances despite growing concerns over a lack of quality going forward.

Vardy can move ahead of Ruud van Nistelrooy and scrub the former United scorer’s 2005 feat from the record books if he scores and makes it ten league games in a row.

“I am very disappointed because I had a feeling we could have won this game and we didn’t do that and we gave the goal away”, the United manager said. I only know Dennis Bergkamp as a player at home who did the same with Ajax. “It’s not so easy to do that”.

United bring the league’s top defense, the only side that hasn’t yet given up double digits in goals on the season (9).

“It [Leicester winning the Premier League] is possible, I think”, van Gaal was quoted saying in BBC.

Not a ringing endorsement – but there’s a chance!

A number of fans made their feelings clear as United meandered to a fourth scoreless draw in seven outings, but Van Gaal says he will not become concerned until his side stop creating opportunities against defensive teams.

The Red Devils travel to Leicester City tomorrow evening and will be looking to bounce back from Wednesday’s sluggish goalless draw with PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.

“You can like or dislike him, and like or dislike his team’s playing style but football does not have just one way of getting results – I think every coach has the right to work with his own philosophy if he gets the desired results”.

“You have to see how our opponents are playing against us, and when you see how they play then you know also the difficulty to disorganise that kind of opponent”, he said.

“My players are disappointed because we had the feeling we could win”.

But Van Gaal remains unworried about the criticism, responding: “We are still not lucky in finishing the chances. You can not help too much”. We believe in him so he has to develop elsewhere. “We have to win and that is the aim and that is what we need to do”.

But he said he had bad memories of the England worldwide, who played a starring role when Leicester beat United 5-3 last season.

“Our goal at the moment is this but let me see the next two months and then maybe I change the goal”.
