And that…is exactly what went on at the Chamorro Village earlier today.

The Salvation Army is adding last minute touches to their annual Thanksgiving dinner.

Monies raised during the Red Kettle campaign are used to sustain the vital programs and services that help people in need in their daily struggles. “It means community. Coming together and supporting those that are less fortunate”. Many donors cooked the food. It’s a gesture that helps many, and it’s always important to help when you can.

It was definitely a great Thanksgiving celebration from the delicious food, to the entertainment, to the festive decorations, and of course, the spirit of giving.

“I did twelve turkeys, and I did three trays of stuffing, and I did three mashed potatoes, and I did three sweet potatoes and they had broccoli and they had cranberry sauce and they had rolls”, said cook Lena Reyes.

The Salvation Army says the toys not only bring the children happiness, but bring peace of mind to many parents as well.

Jermaine Miller just couldn’t get enough of the Thanksgiving feast he was served Wednesday afternoon.

Miss Queen of the Pacific 2015 Kylie Diosa Duenas says, “I’m definitely humbled”.

Ashley O’Connor volunteered for the first time this year, and she said she’ll continue to come back to help serve those in need.

“At least 80 percent of all money given locally stays locally, so it helps us to serve these here in Oktibbeha County and the surround counties that we also serve”, Walker said.

Calling all volunteers. Salvation Army Bell Ringers are needed at Kimball’s Main Street Market from 8 a.m.to 6 p.m. every Friday and Saturday beginning Friday, Dec. 4 and ending Dec. 19. “We’re going to disabled adults, we’re going to senior citizens, we’re going into some low-income housing areas”. She said she just started a new job, which recently decreased the benefits the company offers, including SNAP benefits.
