Cyber Monday racks up a record $3B in sales

By Monday evening, Adobe projected that sales would come in just shy of the $3 billion mark.
The NRF said this year, 103 million Americans shopped online – slightly more than the 102 million who visited physical stores. “Nothing standing out so far”, he said.
By late morning Monday, Adobe reported, sales had already reached $490 million, a 14 percent increase over last year’s sales at that time.

Now that shoppers are online all the time anyway, the 10-year-old shopping holiday has lost some of its luster as online sales on Thanksgiving and Black Friday pick up.
However, footfall figures were disappointing as promotions were spread out over several days and consumers opted to skip the mayhem of previous year and shop online. Last year, according to the National Retail Federation, sales were down 11% compared to 2013.
“Most of our predictions have been spot on, but mobile surprised us”, says Tamara Gaffney, an analyst with Adobe.
Amazon is a very hot point during Cyber Monday due to its awesome deals on electronics but this isn’t the only category that’s getting a wave of discounts. Top retailers are slashing Cyber Monday prices on multi-categories.
Huge chains have continued to slash prices in the run up to Christmas, with many offering big discounts on electrical goods – and yesterday the franzy moved online for Cyber Monday. Despite a slow start to the day, footfall on Black Friday was 30pc higher than an average Friday, while online traffic grew by 60pc.
