Connecticut Huskies at Temple Owls

The Huskies are one of eight American Athletic Conference teams to be bowl eligible. Newsome finished with 1 yard on 13 carries, as the Owls stuffed him behind the line all night. The Huskies managed four yards of offense in the third quarter, while the defense continued to try to push Temple away from the end zone, but with so much possession for the Owls, it was an overwhelming task.

In the team’s 31-12 win against Memphis Nov. 21, the Owls allowed 232 yards of total offense after giving up 556 yards of total offense to South Florida in a 44-23 loss Nov. 14. While not an in-state rivalry, Temple and UCONN are geographically close. “The coaches get together and find a better way to specifically move the ball, get points and find a better way to communicate to the players”. Shippen had a season high 4 catches for 45 yards on the night. Of those tackles, 319 have been of the solo variety. “Having that trophy is an accomplishment, but we want to win the game next week”.

Two nationally ranked teams will meet for the American Athletic Conference title Saturday as No. 25/24 Temple visits No. 21/21 Houston in the inaugural conference championship at Houston’s TDECU Stadium. Highlighted by David Hood breaking loose for a 17 yard gain, they marched 51 yards on 13 plays to set up in Husky territory.

Thomas scampered 9 yards on the Owls’ second possession to give Temple a 7-0 lead – and the Owls did not look back.

The Houston defense has forced an average of 2.3 turnovers per game this season, but Temple is a flawless 4-0 SU when turning the ball over at least 2.0 times in a game. Austin Jones then booted home a 20 yard field goal to make it 10-0 going into the half. I am just so happy to be able to play with my teammates.

Needing a win in the season finale to secure a division title and spot in the AAC title game, Temple relied upon their talented defense in a 27-3 domination of CT.

Shirreffs was in uniform but didn’t play, so the Huskies used Tim Boyle, Garrett Anderson and receiver Noel Thomas at quarterback and often times called upon different quarterbacks on the same series. “We are just going out there and treat it like it is the last game of the season”. Linebacker Tyler Matakevich once again led the Owls in tackles – his 11 stops marked the fourth time he reached double digits this season and he is the only player in FBS to lead his team in every game this year.

“We haven’t studied them yet”, Rhule said. “They are really talented. We’ll just go through our normal week and go down to Houston and see what we can do”.
