Adele has bestselling album of 2015 with over 3 million copies sold

Sales were boosted after Adele and her record company, Sony Music, decided not to release “25” on streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music. Case in point: One Direction’s Made in the A.M. was down a spot to #3 in its second week with 108,000 units, down 76% from the first week sales.

25 will appear at the top of the Billboard 200 albums chart December 12.

Britons bought twice as many physical copies of the album as digital, with 25 shifting 548,000 physical units and 252,423 digital copies last week.

It’ll be really interesting to see what the figures are at the end of the year, as no doubt 25 will still sell millions over the Christmas period.

Meanwhile the 27-year-old’s comeback single Hello and its video have also made quite an impact. The streaming units of the album comes from streams of the single “Hello” alone.

As of last week Adele’s “25” is officially the fastest-selling album of all time in the UK. The current album follows the Grammy winning chart-topper 21.

As everyone prepares for Christmas, Pentatonix’s “That’s Christmas to Me” re-enters the top 10, landing at No. 6 with 61,000. The first half of the album is familiar in subject matter, but the latter half brings a much needed resolution in that tear-rolling-down-your-cheek-style that is the hallmark of the London-born vocalist. The album has risen to its highest rank in over three years. It’s the rapper’s first studio album since The Last Kiss in 2009 and his fourth top ten album. The previous record holder was *NSYNC’s 2000 release No Strings Attached, which sold 2.42 million in one week. Sales of “25” have also had a positive effect on album sales as a whole, boosting the chart market by 21 per cent compared to the previous week.
