Warriors hold on for 19th straight win

Reigning MVP Steph Curry led the Golden State Warriors to a big lead over the Phoenix Suns on Friday night with five ridiculous three-pointers en route to 19 first-quarter points.

As the locomotive continues to chug along, the Golden State Warriors have the opportunity to break the Los Angeles Lakers’ record of 33 straight wins back in 1971-72 season. Draymond Green produced his second triple-double in as many games, becoming the first Warriors’ player to do so since Wilt Chamberlain accomplished the feat in 1964.

The Warriors have set a franchise record with 22 shots made of 3-pointers with one shy away from the league in 38 attempts. They certainly look like the most likely candidate to win the championship next June, behind the clear early season MVP Stephen Curry, who’s shooting more frequently than last season and putting up a career high in points per game at 31.9.

Green finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.

The superlatives that you could hand out to Stephen Curry at this point are endless. If both Trey Burke and Raul Neto can at least keep pace in a match-up where they are projected to get dominated, then the Jazz have chance to serve up the first Warriors loss of the season. The Suns need to do something becasue they are having a awful season.

The Warriors’ starting five got to sit on the bench and watch the final minutes play out for the second straight day Saturday.

“To hold that team to 16 fourth-quarter points was a great effort”, Hoiberg said.

Discipline against transition: The Warriors feast on opponents in transition, their lethal group of shooters and passers spreading out and often bombing teams to death in short spans that can wrap games up in a hurry.

The Spurs are a very different team than the Warriors, and that may be where they have an advantage. The Bulls limited Curry to two points in the second period and just 10 in the half. The Jazz played well but the Thunder proved that they have a more talented team. Klay Thompson added 20, including four three-pointers. “I definitely feel like I’m a better player than I was last year, more efficient”, he added, “We, as a team, are definitely better than we were last year, so we’re just trying to manage that for 66 more games and the rest of that will take care of itself”. Sacramento’s newest addition, Rajon Rondo, is also off to a good start this season, averaging 12.8 PPG and 11.2 APG through 17 games.

The Warriors have now won 86 of their last 100 regular season games.

In Oklahoma City, Kevin Durant had 34 points and 13 rebounds. In order to beat that record by 46.9 percent, a player would have to dish out a total of 1,710 in one season, which would mean that player would have to average 20.9 assists per game over an 82-game schedule. The Jazz have earned the reputation over the past year as one of the more fearsome defensive teams in the entire National Basketball Association.

“What gets lost in the record are the tough games that we have had to claw our way out of”.

“We shoot a lot of threes, but we like to shoot a lot of good ones”, said Curry, whose team shot a season-high 57.9 percent from beyond the arc.
