Speed caused a college charter bus to crash and overturn outside of Richmond, according to Virginia State Police.
One of those on the bus was seriously injured, Geller said.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash, but the driver, Thomas B. Chidester, 58, has been charged with reckless driving.
A Virginia State Police spokeswoman says a private bus carrying several university students has overturned on a highway ramp in the Richmond area and that there are no confirmed fatalities.
At least 33 people are hurt, one critically, after a bus flipped on Powhite Parkway in Virginia around 7:15 p.m. Sunday.
The bus, operated by Abbott Bus Lines of Roanoke, had 50 people on board, including two drivers.
The passengers were mainly students picked up in Richmond who were returning to campuses of the University of Virginia, Virginia Tech and Radford University, police said. Abbott Trailways verified it was taking students back to place campuses following the Thanksgiving weekend. The injuries range from bumps and bruises to cuts and contusions, WTVR reports.

Lang says on Sunday night he was traveling southbound in the Powhite EZ Pass lanes when the bus blew right by him.
The spokesperson for the company also issued a statement saying that Abbott Trailways is ensuring that everyone on the bus is accounted for, and their medical attention is covered.

The bus company added that it dispatched another bus to accommodate students wishing to get to campus as soon as it learned of the accident.
