Murray Shines in Davis Cup win
Andy Murray has urged the Lawn Tennis Association not to squander the feelgood factor emanating from Great Britain’s historic Davis Cup final win. He has reached the last four of the French Open three times, losing a five-set match to Djokovic in the semi-finals in May. Three of those points came in the win over Belgium at the weekend.

Murray would get a late break, and be in front 6-5, and has set point, and is on the defensive running around the baseline, and whips a forehand cross court that Goffin can not get to – giving him the frame 7-5 and a 2-set lead.
He wobbled briefly when he dropped serve early in the third set but the world number two responded to move 5-3 ahead.
With the spotlight clearly on him, as it should be, Murray made it clear that Great Britain’s Davis Cup squad was not a one-man team and was quick to give credit to his teammates, coach and support group. He definitely brought class to the game.
After the game, the very emotional Murray said: “I just can’t believe we did it”. I think he showed his potential and also he saw in front what he can improve.
“I’ve played more matches this year than any other year and my body’s responded really well to it, which is good”. Look at how Andy played, there was nothing more David could do. He is unbelievably talented.
“So we have to make sure we enjoy tonight and the next couple of days, because I know how much hard work and effort goes into moments like this”.
But it’s obviously just a coincidence and yeah, it’s been an awesome journey the whole year. I’m really proud of what we did this year. Murray said after the match that he will return for the first round tie against Japan, which will be in March, as the team tries to defend the win.
“I’ve been pretty upset having lost matches before”.
Murray, who ended Britain’s 77-year wait for a men’s Wimbledon champion in 2013, then sat on the British team’s bench, his face hidden behind a Union Jack flag. I didn’t know that would ever be possible.
This win is Britain’s first Davis Cup win since 1936 when Fred Perry lifted the Davis cup for his country.

Murray was immediately swamped by his team mates, captain Leon Smith and the support staff and was hoisted shoulder high on the court before saluting the dancing British fans. It was absolutely incredible.
