San Diego Chargers snap six-game losing streak with narrow victory

Jacksonville Jaguars’ wide receiver Allen Hurns had to be carted off the field on a stretcher during the fourth quarter of the team’s matchup against the San Diego Chargers Sunday. Just before halftime, after an interception by Manti Te’o gave the Chargers great field position, Rivers hit Gates again on a 12-yard touchdown.

Gates will be honest – so was some luck.

The San Diego Chargers look for their first road win of the season by traveling three time zones to square off against the Jacksonville Jaguars at EverBank Field today.

The second-round pick, Denzel Perryman, proved why he could be a solid linebacker in this league posting seven tackles, one for loss and making key plays throughout the game. It turned out to be the difference in San Diego’s 31-25 victory, which ended a six-game losing streak.

“A guy like Johnathan Cyprien has put together a couple of good games together”, said Bradley on Monday. “Of course it’s something you don’t want to happen but you’ve just got to get ready for the next play”. The defensive highlight of the game was the Teo interception, which very well might have been the difference in the game. The front four failed to get pressure for the majority of the game and the secondary allowed for easy touchdown scores in coverage.

They were playing a San Diego team that had lost six in a row, including a 33-3 loss to Kansas City a week ago. The former Athens High School star scrambled for 8 yards on a fourth-and-7 snap from the Jacksonville 38-yard line.

“I don’t like looking at stuff like that”, veteran tight end Marcedes Lewis said.

Quarterback Phillip Rivers is having one of his best seasons as despite the Chargers’ woes. The Jags seemed to move the ball at will on the Chargers, but failed on their first 4 drives into the red zone to score a TD. He appeared to have better success running outside than inside, which the coaching staff should take note of when formulating next week’s game plan. He said that the coaching staff and players will continue to make adjustments when needed. “I don’t know from a coach’s perspective what you tell a guy that does that, ‘Quit being an idiot?’ I don’t know”. “There’s been a big emphasis, we’re in the red zone, we need to make plays, we need to turn these into touchdowns”, he said.
