Coutinho set to return against Southampton

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that midfielder Philippe Coutinho will be in contention for a start against Southampton in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday.

The Reds’ reward for beating Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth last month is a clash with their victims’ south coast rivals Southampton in the final eight of the competition.

Monk said he is ready to face up to the responsibility of results after James Milner’s second-half penalty handed Liverpool the points at Anfield and made it just one league win in the last ten for Swansea.

Ronald Koeman’s side heads into the match on the back of a 3-1 defeat at Manchester City, while Liverpool has won on its last two visits to St Mary’s. “The League Cup gets some bad press at times for whatever reason, but if you ask anyone they would take a League Cup this season. I accept full responsibility for this run of results”.

“It was important to get the win”, he added.

‘I was really happy when we signed him.

“Football is not a sport where you can only play one way”, he explained.

However, Klopp felt the Reds were well worth the win, even if the result wasn’t as emphatic as their recent successes away to Chelsea and Manchester City.

Though Liverpool emerged victorious at the final whistle, they often struggled to break down Swansea’s rigid back-four – clearly missing the magic of the injured Philippe Coutinho – and Klopp laid some blame of the largely tiresome affair on to the freakish weather conditions on L4.

For good reason, Liverpool fans are starting to get excited that they could soon reclaim their place as England’s finest, under a man who led Borussia Dortmund to back-to-back Bundesliga titles from 2010 to 2012.

“If they are fit and available, then the manager has to choose and that is what happened when I played for Liverpool”. I feel good how I’m playing at the moment and hopefully I’m giving a bit of a headache to put me in the starting XI.

“We had to fight in hard circumstances and that’s what we did”.

“The wind was insane because it changed all the time”.

Liverpool great Ian Rush thinks the return of Daniel Sturridge means his old team now have healthy competition for places in attack. Alberto Moreno had, I think, 20 knocks everywhere on his body and was limping from the pitch to the dressing room. I am not making excuses but part of the problem recently has been decisions need to go for you and I am gutted for the players not to get something from it.
