Organizations, like Salvation Army and KARM, have been preparing for weeks to serve over a thousand traditional meals on Thanksgiving.

The officer in charge of the Guam branch of the Salvation Army, Captain Michael Lutcher, knows all too well what’s it’s like to be down on your luck.

“I’ve lived with some of these people in shelters all across the United States”, Howe said. “You see your nieces and nephews, grand kids that are very fortunate … these families aren’t”.

“People from the community and organisations in Ellesmere Port will be working hard this year to make sure that your generous Christmas gifts get to those who might otherwise go without. This is a great place to be”.

The Salvation Army has kicked off its local Kettle Campaign for another season.

“The community will provide that wonderful gift and then the parent doesn’t have to make the decision ‘do I give my child a gift or do I pay my electric bill.’ So, the community can help and be that gap for that family”, Capt. Roseno explained.

The Salvation Army is an global, evangelical part of the Christian church that operates 7,546 centers in communities across the United States, according to its website.

“It means family”, Lawrence said. “A lot of people doing a lot of good today”. Around 300 people were served at each location, helped by dozens of volunteers.

Many people who are helped by the Salvation Army are in need of a home or simply need help getting back on their feet.

“I think it’s wonderful they take their time to do this for us and I thank them for what they do”, says Chesmore.
