Intolerance debate: PM remains silent when rationalists get killed, Rahul

Congress vice president and Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday trained guns at Modi government during a debate on intolerance in Lok Sabha as he listed some examples of alleged intolerance in the country. Mahatma Gandhi gave voice to the people.

“Government talks of skill India, Modi ji tells everybody that we need to skill our people…When students in FTII with superb skills complaint about a mediocre person heading them, the government crushes their voice”, said Rahul Gandhi.

“People like Narayana Murthy, Raghuram Rajan and Pushpa Mittra Bhargava are among the many protesting… They are saying it because they are disturbed like millions of people in this country”, Gandhi said. Respect them and try to understand what is disturbing them. He said, “When I heard PM yesterday, I realised how broadly we differ”.

Referring to the Dadri incident in which a Muslim man was lynched over rumuors that he ate beef, Rahul said it was the PM’s duty to speak to the victim’s family to ensure that India was still safe for them.

Two Dalit children – two-and-a-half yr previous Vaibhav and eleven-month-previous Divya – had died after their home was set on hearth, allegedly by members of an higher caste group at a village in Haryana. “When Arun Shorie criticised the Prime Minister, Modi supporters went on trolling the leader”. Our strength is our tolerance. He also questioned how the Prime Minister could allow him to continue in his ministry.

“Will he simply place the Constitution on an elephant and walk in front? The man ultimately responsible for their protection remains silent”, he said.

He said the Prime Minister had nothing to say after the murders of rationalists like Narendra Dabholkar, Govind Pansare and M.M. Kalburgi.
