Target’s high traffic is a sign that people are still showing up for deals one way or another, even if it’s not in person on Black Friday. Many retailers began promoting pre-Black Friday specials in early November.
Online sales have been driving the holiday season so far, as more people chose to shop online over stores during Thanksgiving weekend, according to figures from the National Retail Federation.
Users of the popular online payment processing service PayPal have reported major problems logging in or making transactions – a critical time as Cyber Monday sales are in full swing.
It’s causing some serious traffic – to the point that Target’s website is down, CNBC reports.
Twitter users were quick to express their displeasure.
We’re hearing that the PayPal issues involving its third-party web element also contributed to the slow load times on HP.com’s mobile site.
“As we experience spikes in traffic, our systems place guests in a queue and prompt them to access the site later”, Bastian said in an email. The Target.com website also includes a doorbusters section that highlights some of the featured bargains.
Along with widespread sales across the site, Target.com was specifically promoting a 15% discount on evert order durin Cyber Monday with the use of the special promo code “CYBER15”.
And yet online sales on Monday were on pace for a record-breaking day, with forecasters from Adobe projecting that $3 billion would be spent online before the deals bonanza was over.
