Ravens Win on 64-Yard Blocked Field Goal Return for Touchdown

This is the Ravens fifth-straight game with a special teams block. It took one of the most improbable occurrences in football to finally give one team the win.

Both teams punted on their opening possessions, but the Ravens (4-7) got an 82-yard punt return by rookie Kaelin Clay, already on his third National Football League team, to get on the scoreboard first.

On a chilly night in Cleveland, the Ravens got the whole Schaub experience, and it appeared that the quarterback’s final mistake, coupled by the latest inexplicable late-game defensive meltdown, would cost the Ravens the game. At 2-9, the only thing the Browns have to look forward to is the 2016 NFL Draft order.

“Ideally, we wanted to get it closer and save the timeout for the field goal”, Pettine said.

The Browns are probably the worst professional sports franchise in the country, at least among those (remember the spirit of the 76ers) who are really trying to win.

“A tough one to wrap your brain around”, Pettine said. He returned to the field, but dropped to the ground after an incompletion, forcing the Browns to turn to Davis, who made eight starts for St. Louis last season but was getting his first action for Cleveland.

After Tramon Williams picked off a Matt Schaub offering to put the Browns in business, Davis connected with Hartline for six yards, then scrambled seven more for a vital first down. He ended his night with 20 completions in 34 attempts for 232 yards and two touchdown passes. “It’s frustrating we didn’t finish it”.

With the score tied, 27-27, and mere seconds remaining on the clock, Travis Coons lined up a potential game-winning field goal. The lone first half touchdown came on a Josh McCown pass to Marlon Moore, which reminded fans of all the players ahead of Dwayne Bowe on the depth chart. Browns nose tackle Danny Shelton, already a target of criticism for lackluster play at his actual position, was in at left guard on the kick-protection unit. Another Coons field goal just before halftime got Cleveland back within striking distance. Two weeks ago, Davis said he had received few practice reps other than on the scout team, that he was simply trying to learn the offense the best he could.

Following the game, they may have wanted to throw up in them. Allen was targeted five times and caught four passes, one for a 13-yard touchdown.
