Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar shortlisted for FIFA Ballon d’Or 2015

Club team-mates Lionel Messi and Neymar have been named on the three-man shortlist, alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.

Neymar on the other hand will hope to break the Messi-Ronaldo monopoly that dates back to 2007 after his first nomination.

The 28-year-old Argentina global, who was also handed the best forward award, was in sparkling form for the Catalan giants last season scoring 43 goals and providing 18 assists in the league.

The 2015 finalists for the FIFA Ballon d’Or were announced on Monday morning and the three players who will head to Switzerland for soccer’s biggest prize all hail from Spanish clubs as La Liga once again dominated the awards.

The former Santos prodigy has so far scored 45 goals in 2015, 41 of which have been for Barcelona.

Speaking to beIN Sports, he said: “I believe that the image of the Ballon d’Or should have been Messi, Luis Suarez and me; I would have loved to be there all together”.

“I think our qualities make the three (Lionel Messi, Suarez and Neymar) of us well suited to playing together”.

‘Football changes in a matter of hours and last season we ended the year really well and Barca were worse than us, but at the end of the season they won the Treble, ‘ Ramos said.

Ronaldo has won the last two editions of the Ballon d’Or, ending Messi’s four-year hold on the award, which his regarded as the most prestigious individual prize in world football.

AS Roma’s Alessandro Florenzi, Messi and Vila Nova Futebol Clube’s Wendell Lira will vie for the “Puskas Award” for the best goal of the year. The Argentine will be looking to get his fourth FIFA Ballon D’Or following an awesome season for the Blaugrana while Ronaldo is looking to get third.
