Leigh Griffiths is the ideal striker, says Celtic manager Ronny Deila

The Irish striker was left out in the cold at Inverness and took to his personal Twitter account to voice his displeasure at dropping down the pecking order.

Celtic manager Ronny Deila has told The Daily Record that he has been impressed with the attitude of midfielder Scott Allan.

“It was not a great game, but it’s very hard to expect too much when you’ve played a European game two-and-a-half days ago”, the manager explained to the club’s official site.

Bolton have also always been linked, but such is the financial situation at the Macron Stadium a move looks unlikely unless the proposed takeover goes through.

The Irish forward had written on social media: “Buzzing to be brought all the way up to Inverness with the team to sit in the stands today”.

“If that is harder for him than somebody else, then for me he is not a team player”.

Stokes has only featured twice this season but Boyd urged him to consider how the fortunes of Griffiths have changed since he was initially unable to pin down a regular place when Deila took over from Neil Lennon in the summer of 2014. “It’s all about playing and contributing not picking up a wage”, Stokes responded. “But so far he has been more talking than performances”.

Callum McGregor celebrated his first league start in over a year to open the scoring in the seventh minute to follow up his strike in the 2-1 Europa League defeat to Ajax on Thursday.

Nir Bitton shot inches wide from distance but the scores remained level until just before the hour mark, when Griffiths steered Kieran Tierney’s low cross from the left high into the net at the near post after some good work by Scott Allan. I think he says he’s doing extra training sessions.

“The flawless example of that – for so many players like Callum McGregor who’s come in recently – is Leigh Griffiths in terms of the length of time he had to wait for a start”. I felt tactically he wasn’t playing the way we could have done.

“The second goal was a cheap goal to give away, the third goal might have been a handball from Cole but that is neither here nor there”. The travelling Celtic fans’ joy was pushed up a gear when cult-hero, Carlton Cole, came on to make his debut, replacing Tom Rogić. There has been an unbelievable history here and I think it is important to keep that memory alive and go out and see other countries.

But as he faces into a critical phase of his career Stokes – now 27 and no longer a callow youth – he may have twittered his way into more trouble than he needs, or can deal with.
