Rex Ryan plans to make changes to Bills challenge process

Today, the first half did not go the way the Chiefs would have liked.

While both teams held a lead at one point or another, the Bills ultimately came undone by Rex Ryan’s late-game coaching decisions. No question about it. I’m not pointing fingers at anybody else.

They discovered another way to win a game, which is what teams that go deep into the postseason often have to do.

Alex Smith threw for 255 yards and two touchdowns, Spencer Ware ran for 114 yards and a score, and the Chiefs beat the Buffalo Bills 30-22 on Sunday in a matchup teams in the thick of the wild-card race.

Carey also was called in to weigh in an unsuccessful challenge by Chiefs Coach Andy Reid on a catch made by Bills receiver Sammy Watkins. “What we’ve got to do is find a way to get better at it. I believe we have one in place now that will be more effective”. “All that stuff, if you keep knocking out the fundamentals and techniques, you don’t worry about that other stuff”.

Ryan didn’t outline what changes would be made or who was responsible for advising him, although he did say that team chaplain James Trapp, who was seen on TV talking to Ryan during a possible challenge, wasn’t involved. I sat back and started thinking about how I would write articles about an ugly loss after we all JUST started to hope again. Jerry Hughes picked up yet another major penalty, when he intentionally bumped into Smith after he delivered a pass. The roughing-the-passer call kept alive a Chiefs field goal drive…. The Bills got the ball back but Tyrod Taylor fumbled after he was hit and the Chiefs recovered the ball which lead to three more points for them and widening the lead for the Chiefs to 16 – 24 with less than 10 minutes left in the third quarter. But Taylor, who completed 21 of 38 passes for 291 yards and three touchdowns, was stopped short of the marker on a fourth-down scramble on the ensuing drive, and the Chiefs ran out the clock to clinch the victory.

By that point, Watkins had six catches for 158 yards and two touchdowns. While those players didn’t come through for their owners, the players on the list below stepped up and got their owners off to fast starts. “We’ve got to put them away”. This game sure made it look like they will.

Chiefs linebacker Justin Houston appears to have a strained ligament in his left knee, though the team is still awaiting MRI exam results to determine the severity of the injury.

Reid said the extent of all of them would not be known until Monday.

Based on the immediate seriousness of Carrington’s injury, he very well might be done for the season, meaning Mario Williams might be rushed back into the starting lineup.

The first half amounted to a showcase for Taylor and Watkins.

Watkins caught a 48-yard reception on the game’s opening drive to set up Dan Carpenter’s 27-yard field goal in the slop. The Chiefs trailed 10-0 in the early going of the as the Bills scored on two-of-their-first four possessions.

Buffalo rookie cornerback Ronald Darby left the game with a possible concussion. Kick off is at 3:05 p.m.

Because that injury occurred in the Chiefs’ final game, there’s no telling how much time Houston would have missed, and Reid didn’t hazard a guess. “We knew this was going to be an old-school fight, an in-the-back-alley-type deal”.

The answer would come with 10 minutes left in the second quarter when a seemingly innocent play, a run up the middle by Ware, would suddenly spark the offense into life. At halftime, former Chiefs G Will Shields was presented with his Pro Football Hall of Fame ring. Roberts caught six of the seven passes thrown his way and finished with 113 yards.

Then, in the fourth quarter, Nickell Robey did a great job of reading a screen pass for Maclin and watching it live it sure looked like he’d be able to jump the route, make the pick and maybe run it all the way back for a touchdown.
