Apple to reportedly use Lightning audio port for next iPhone
A source revealed that Apple will be developing a lightning connector that has a similar size to headphone jack, reported in MacOtakara according to Mac Rumors. It would also force consumers to use new headphones, which will be bundled with the iPhone 7, according to the report, or get an adapter to connect older devices. That only means you are ought to buy a 3.5mm-to-Lightning adapter which Apple may make available soon if you want to use wired headphones, earbuds, or even Apple’s current EarPods.

According to PC Mag, one of these changes will be related to the headphone jack, which will be replaced by something else.
Options could include a second lightning port or including a USB-C port (the new and improved version of the standard USB port).
Appleinsider pointed out that the company hinted that it may move to Lightning-enabled headphone accessories at a “Designing Accessories for iOS and OS X” session at WWDC past year. It added that the main reason why Apple was going forward with the change was because it would result in the thickness of the iPhone 7 being reduced by 1mm. A digital port for connecting your headphones could be part of the next gen iPhone 7. Well, via Bluetooth or the Lightning port. This could be a problem for many as you’ll have to choose between charging your iPhone or listening to music.
Also, another version would be to make a headset with a Lightning connector, so users could connect them through the same port used for charging the phone.

The standard 3.5-millimeter headphone jack hasbeen a technological feature on computers, smartphones and stereo equipment for decades – but it may be obsolete in the next iPhone, writes Mac Forum. Importantly this would make the iPhone 7 the slimmest phone ever created by Apple. Philips is one of the company’s that has already jumped the Lightning cable bandwagon.
