IPhone 7 May Ditch 3.5mm Headphone Jack For Lightning Connector

As well as allowing the phone to become much slimmer, the change could also bring new features to the headphones.

Apple introduced specifications for Lightning-compatible headphones a year ago, though relatively few developers jumped at the chance to release Lightning connector equipment. Which means the so-called “iPhone 7” could be compared to the sixth-generation iPod touch that has a depth of 6.1mm.

Apple wants the next device in the series to be extremely thin. The report adds that the Cupertino company may launch its own Lightning-equipped EarPods that would likely be shipped with the iPhone 7, but will be sold separately.

The latest rumor surrounding Apple’s next iPhone suggests the smartphone will do away with the 3.5 mm headphone jack.

Going by Mac Otakara’s projections, the decision by Apple to remove the 3.5mm headphone jack from the next iPhone model is evidently rooted in the company’s efforts to further slim down the iPhone.

Of course, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard rumours Apple is considering ditching the traditional 3.5mm jack from its smartphones.

Aside from the iPhone 7 getting rid of the earphone jack, other rumors of the so-called “iPhone 7” include the mobile phone being a bit thinner than the current iPhone 6s – but only 1mm will be gone.

So how do you connect your headphones to your iPhone 7?

However, removing the headphone jack, and using the device’s Lightning port for audio instead, would enable Apple to create a thinner iPhone. This may just end up alienating a lot of people since if you plug your headphones into the lightning port, you will not be able to charge your phone simultaneously. Apple is making a chance that all devices will be wireless very soon shortly, which will take out the need such a large number of ports on our gadgets. A 3.5mm to Lightning adapter would be needed for any conventional wired headphones, or users would have to make the leap to Bluetooth.
