The University of Miami interviewed Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen and former coaches Greg Schiano and Butch Davis for its head coaching vacancy, according to multiple reports Tuesday. The school will also talk with former Georgia coach today.
Mullen, who has a 54-35 record in seven seasons with Mississippi State, has interviewed with Miami officials in the past 24 hours, sources told ESPN’s Chris Low. He has not coached since his firing by North Carolina in 2011.
The Washington Post reported that Locksley was given the chance to interview for the permanent position. Interestingly, one name not in this group is Alabama offensive line coach Mario Cristobal, who was considered a favorite for the job when Al Golden was sacked following a 58-0 loss to Clemson. He’s more likely to get another raise to stay where he’s at, but it seems inevitable that Mullen will leave Starkville for a higher ceiling job.
Just one day after the Georgia Bulldogs football team played their final regular season game of the year, Georgia’s athletic department announced the school and head football coach Mark Richt had mutually agreed to part ways.
