Rambo TV series in the works at Fox
The man behind the big screen’s John Rambo will executive produce the father-son project.

Fox is suiting up for a reboot of “Rambo”, ordering a script for a one-hour drama based on the iconic Sylvester Stallone film franchise. I hear conflicting information whether Stallone has a deal in place to act in the project, about Rambo and his son, though he certainly has the option to do so. Some sources indicate that the actor would reprise his role as the famous renegade soldier, which he has played in all four Rambo movies to date, while others say that he won’t appear in the series.
At the moment, plans relating to production and release for Rambo: New Blood have not yet been announced. Talks for a Rambo TV series have been ongoing since 2013, but not much else is known about the series at the moment. For Fox, it makes some sense; considering the fact that First Blood and its sequels were the kind of military action movies that helped define the 1980s, it’s easy enough to imagine the update to fill the void left by 24.
The basic plot of Rambo: New Blood introduces and follows a completely new character in an ex-Navy SEAL named J.R. (presumably standing for John Rambo junior). In addition to Stallone, Avi Lerner will also exec produce.
Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky franchise recently delivered a box office knockout with Creed, and the winning move was to let a younger generation take over as the main draw. “Rambo: First Blood” will be executive produced and written by Jeb Stuart.

On TV, Rambo previously got animated treatment with the 1986 syndicated series Rambo: The Force of Freedom.
