Simon Mignolet is the smartest goalkeeper I have had, says

Jurgen Klopp has declared himself “absolutely satisfied” with his goalkeeper options after denying reports Liverpool would sign a replacement for Simon Mignolet.

England and Stoke goalkeeper Jack Butland and Cologne’s Timo Horn have been linked.

But Klopp has come out in defence of his first choice goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, who he has described as one of the “smartest” ‘keepers he’s ever worked with. Sorry to kill your stories about German goalkeepers, Stoke or wherever.

“The team hasn’t been announced yet, so we don’t know who is going to play, but obviously I would like to play and carry on the way I have before”, Bogdan said.

Not that Bogdan will be anxious, having already shone during Liverpool’s penalty shootout victory over lowly Carlisle in the third round of the competition.

Because, in bringing the former Bolton man back into the Reds’ starting line-up, Klopp and Liverpool look set to benefit from a goalkeeper with a superb record when it comes to penalty shootouts.

‘He is completely open and he’s young enough to develop, to improve. He didn’t have the easiest situation before I came here.

“If you have 20 injuries, you can not treat it like it is the first”.

“We all think we have a long time together and we have always to do the next step”.

When asked what Sturridge had said to Klopp following those comments the manager said: “I can’t tell you anything about when I speak to the players and what they tell me”.

Lucas Leiva is back from suspension for the clash with Saints, while Daniel Sturridge and Jordan Henderson (both foot) should be in the squad again after making their returns from long-term lay-offs as substitutes in the win over Swansea.

Phillipe Coutinho could return to the squad for the Southampton game after a two-week absence with a hamstring injury.

“Coutinho could be close, but we need to check and double check the situation”, he said. We have an away game so we are not the favourites.
