Recep Tayyip Erdogan said tension between the countries would “harm both sides”.

President Obama admitted Tuesday that the US and other countries fighting the Islamic State have so far failed to convince Russian Federation to join their cause, and that Russian Federation is unlikely to drop its support for Syrian President Bashar Assad anytime soon.

Obama said that Putin would not want to become “bogged down in an inconclusive and paralyzing civil conflict”.

Russia’s embargo on some Turkish food – from tomatoes to turkey – will come into effect from the start of next year, the government announced today, as Moscow tries to exact revenge on Ankara over the downing of its warplane. “Along with our allies, the United States supports Turkey’s right to defend itself, and its airspace and its territory, and we’re very much committed to Turkey’s security and its sovereignty”, said President Obama.

“We are always willing to resort to the diplomatic language (…) we want to avoid the tensions”, he said.

Russia will also ban charter flights with Turkey from December 1, 2015, with the exception of flights returning Russians home from holidays, the Russian government’s press service said.

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu meanwhile said Russian Federation should re-establish communication channels instead of making “baseless accusations” that Ankara shot down the jet to keep hidden oil deals with IS which help fund the group’s deadly activities.

Russian Federation has claimed that Turkey shot down its plane to protect what he described as Turkish profiteering from the oil trade with the Islamic State group and has slapped a package of sanctions against Turkish products. It also announced that almost 50 Russian universities were suspending their cooperation agreements with Turkish counterparts.

WASHINGTON _ After the Russian jetliner bombing, after the Paris attacks, after two face-to-face meetings and shuttle diplomacy by a trusted ally, President Barack Obama doesn’t see any quick help coming from Vladimir Putin in Syria.

“We have recently received additional reports that confirm that oil from ISIL-controlled territories is delivered to the territory of Turkey on an industrial scale”, he said, according to TASS news agency.

“It is possible, over the next several months, that we’ll see a shift in calculations by the Russians and a recognition that it’s time to bring the civil war in Syria to a close”.

Turkish officials say the plane violated Turkish air space after being repeatedly warned to change its course.

The Moscow authorities previously said the Su 24 were assaulting “terrorists” from the North Caucasus based inside Syria when the Turkish jets assaulted them.

“You should put your documents on the table if you have any”, Mr Erdogan said. “The warnings issued to the Russian pilots were mere speculation at the moment they were made”, the scientists said.
