The roughly 15 percent gain for Cyber Monday should lead to total sales of $3 billion for online commerce on Monday, which would be a record dollar volume, according to Adobe Digital Index.
Online shopping is taking its toll on brick-and-mortar shopping.
MTN News- Cyber Monday is in full swing.
A big reason for the decline is increased online shopping, as Americans hunt down deals on their smartphones, tablets and computers.
If you’re looking to save on quality pieces, the best clothing deals you’ll find online won’t be from retailers like Forever 21 and H&M, whose prices are already low year-round. Online-only retailers like eBay and Amazon are also offering deals on cameras, speakers and televisions. About a 3rd of interviewed consumers said that they shopped Cyber Monday in the evening the previous year. But if you were too full to fight through the crowds on Black Friday, there’s still time to get some of the season’s best savings from the comfort of your bed. “Nothing standing out so far”, he said.
The strong numbers come on the heels of a slower Black Friday than retailers were expecting.
The online retail giant has new Cyber Monday deals every 5 minutes, but will have extended sales all week long.
Cyber Monday shoppers are expected to spend 3 billion dollars or more which is up 12% from 2014 and that does not include those who logged in early.
Accurate comparisons can not be made between this year and last because the poll by Prosper Insights & Analytics for the NRF used a different methodology than in 2014.
“My wife does most of the shopping”. Then she bought earrings and clutches on Monday during its 40 percent off sale. A year ago, the nation’s largest retailer only offered a sneak peak of about 20 deals on the evening before Cyber Monday. Target said customer visits were twice as high as during its busiest day ever but that the site was not down.
The NRF’s research also found that Cyber Monday shopping may not be a totally mainstream practice yet, but it’s getting close.
In a sneak preview of that report, a Mastercard executive told Reuters that apparel-focused USA retailers saw sales perk up over the four-day promotional period, while sales at department-store and electronics revenue were roughly flat. Email promotions drove 25% more sales compared with 2014, the company said.

“That extra 5 percent convinced me to buy a few more”, she said.
