Tyson Fury The New Heavyweight Champion of the World

Fury has no problem giving the 39-year-old veteran his chance, even if it is in Germany again.

“I lost the battle but the fighter is still in me”, said Klitschko.

“Japan, Turkey, Azerbaijan, America – wherever it has to be, it has to be. It just means so much to me to come here and get the decision”.

“That wasn’t as good as I can do, and I’ve got plenty of people to back that up”.

It was a chess match rather than a brawl but Fury looked confident and composed throughout, switching stances regularly and using footwork, feints and head movement to keep Klitschko frustrated. “I’ve seen this. I dreamed it in my dreams”.

“Why do we have to mention Deontay Wilder?”. Let’s laugh at his name, shall we? Wladimir Klitschko is the number one in the division. Probably the pound-for-pound king, whatever that means. The dominant Ukrainian is facing questions from some quarters as to how long he can continue at the very top level, especially now that he is pushing 40 years old and – for some – showed small signs of decline in April’s clash with American, Bryant Jennings. “I never took my eyes off him during the stare-off”. His reach bothered me.

Tyson’s trainer and uncle Peter Fury paid tribute to his late brother Hughie post-fight, the Lancaster boxing figure who first trained Tyson as a professional having passed away just over a year ago.

According to CompuBox, both fighters landed 23 percent of their punches in a fight that went all 12 rounds but saw a lack of connecting shots. “I didn’t have this confidence for nothing”, beamed Fury after his unanimous points win ended Klitschko’s run of 19 consecutive title defenses. Honestly, based on the performances, it’d be hard to convince any newcomer watching the fight that the two best heavyweight boxers in the world were going at it.

“I expected a bit more for Tyson”, he said.

“It’s a great honour to be sat here with all these belts as the heavyweight champion of the world”.

He said his rise to become Heavyweight Champion was not easy and despite being undefeated so far in his career, he was constantly written off. I wasn’t given anything for free. I should have thrown more right hands, but after throwing left hands, I couldn’t find the distance and land as many as I wished.
