Washington Redskins: 3 takeaways from Week 12

-LB Ryan Kerrigan had two sacks giving him 6.5 for the season.

Just after I write a drooling piece on Eli’s eminence, he throws three picks. “All I know is we fought in the second half and the first half we were disgusted with how we played”.

Early in the second quarter with the Redskins ahead 3-0, Jackson lined up to the right of the formation.

A third Manning interception midway through the third quarter handed Washington another chance, but it wasn’t until the fourth that they extended their lead courtesy of another Hopkins field goal.

The loss by the Saints, however, might be more damaging than a win by the opposition.

On the road against Washington, a bottom-10 defense, NY was held scoreless for the first 50 minutes of the game. He grabbed his first career interception on a Manning pass in the end zone, and registering three pass defenses before leaving with a dislocated finger.

“For me it’s not about Odell versus Revis”, Manning said.

“You guys know I’ve been preaching this all year”, he told the Junkies.

SO MUCH LOSING: The Redskins already have surpassed their victory total from last season, when they went 4-12.

Already missing starters left guard Justin Pugh (concussion) and center Weston Richburg (high ankle sprain), the Giants offense lost right guard Geoff Schwartz (fractured lower leg) in the second quarter.

Manning took the blame during his post-game comments.

The Giants? It may be a two-team battle now between NY and the Redskins, but, as Giants coach Tom Coughlin said when asked about his team fighting to stay relevant, “We can be, but we certainly have to put ourselves in that position”.

‘I’m going to come into work tomorrow, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and for the rest of the week and this year and give it my all, ‘ he said. But Washington is one of those that can pull off surprises any given day. He was completely horizontal just a few feet above the ground and was able to not only bring the ball into his chest and get his hands underneath it, but to maintain possession without any way to brace himself on the way back down. “It’s good to get a win, and it’s good to get a win the way we did”.

The Giants also have concerns on the offensive side of the ball. They have not won two consecutive games. Is it personnel? Teams always seem bereft of talent when they don’t play well. “It’s going to be another dogfight”, Washington left tackle Trent Williams said. (Last year, the 3-11 Redskins beat the Eagles in Week 16 to keep Chip Kelly’s team out of the playoffs, so that’s instant motivation for a team that could be playing out the string.) Sweep those games and it’s nearly impossible to believe Washington doesn’t win the East, as the Giants would have to win out.

Jordan Reed had eight catches on nine targets for 98 yards.

During the Redskins’ current five-game home winning streak, Cousins has completed 127-of-167 passes (76.0 percent) for 1,436 yards with 10 touchdowns and zero interceptions for a passer rating of 121.2.

“There were some things that needed to be said, and we came out and showed it today”, receiver Pierre Garcon said. As the regular season winds down, the smoke is finally starting to clear: Washington is in the driver’s seat to win the division – blessed with the tiebreaker advantage and a very soft closing schedule – despite failing to win two games in a row or even one game on the road this season.
