Authorities in Alaska’s capital city on Tuesday were investigating the mysterious death of Juneau’s new mayor and trying to tamp down intrigue swirling around the case.

Police said rumors that Fisk had been assaulted were mere “speculation”.

A cause of death has not been determined.

Kalwara says Fisk’s home is still an active investigation scene.

Johnson said no evidence of forced entry was detected in Fisk’s home.

“It’s not clear what the cause of those injuries are”, said police spokeswoman Erann Kalwara.

Word of Fisk’s death has spread quickly and prompted rumors that he was murdered or assaulted.

Egan has lost a friend and a town has lost its leader, said Juneau Chief of Police Bryce Johnson.

The mayor of Alaska’s capital was found dead just weeks after he took office.

The governor of Alaska, Bill Walker, paid tribute to Fisk on Twitter, writing: ‘My thoughts and prayers are with the family of Mayor Greg Fisk. “There could’ve been a fall, there’s lots of things that would cause it”.

Juneau resident Bob King, who campaigned for Fisk and lives next door, said the campaign was notable for how positive it was, and that Juneau has suffered a tremendous loss.

City meetings scheduled for Monday night were canceled. Deputy Mayor Mary Becker was named acting mayor.“I think this was a awful day for all of Juneau, ” Downtown Business Association president Jill Ramiel told the Juneau Empire. “Was so looking forward to his vision for Juneau”, musician Marian Call tweeted.
