Pakistan v England: England win Super-Over to take series 3-0

Chris Jordan put the finishing touches on a near-perfect Twenty20 worldwide series for England as his nerveless Super Over sealed a whitewash of Pakistan in Sharjah.

England, having already won the three-match series with victories in the first two matches, were lifted by James Vince (46) and Woakes (37) who shared a seventh wicket stand of 60 after their team was struggling at 86-6. Pakistan team bowled well Shahid Afridi and Tanvir both took 2 wickets each.

“Joe (Root) was going to bat three”.

But Malik (75 in 54 balls) was out on the penultimate ball of the innings, holing out to Sam Billings in long on when Pakistan needed just two runs.

Chris Jordan has revealed that confidence in England’s plan in the super over was crucial to guiding his side to success in the third T20 worldwide against Pakistan.

The win in Sharjah completes an excellent limited-overs tour for England, who followed a 2-0 Test series defeat with a 3-1 win in the one-day internationals. With Malik, he added 61 in six overs before Willey’s slower ball defeated his lap to bowl him around his legs with 27 needed from 20 balls, a courageous variation in the circumstances. Shahid Afridi was the most successful bowler for Pakistan with three wickets to his name.

“They are not young like 18 or 19 and as far as the opportunities are concerned everyone, selectors and cricket board, know they get the most opportunities so I think selectors will have to think”. There was no explosive batting from England, but they made sure the score board kept ticking, which resulted in them positing a total of 172 runs for the loss of eight wickets.

England will defend a target for the third time in the T20 series as they aim to secure a whitewash after their back-to-back victories in Dubai.

Vince is targeting a good performance for the England Lions in order to stake a claim for a berth in all formats for the national team.

The coach has experience of winning three separate T20 tournaments – a Big Bash and Champions League with Sydney Sixers in 2012 and, perhaps more importantly, an IPL with Kolkata Knight Riders in the same calendar year.

The 24-year-old said: ‘It is nice to contribute.

Morgan managed 15 and Jos Buttler just two.

The Sussex man had earlier conceded 39 runs without a wicket – the most by an England bowler – but Morgan told Sky Sports that picking Jordan was an easy choice.

Seen enough? No way, this is Pakistan we’re talking about and Hafeez ensured that he was in the thick of the action yet again in the final Twenty20 on Monday.

Vince had survived on four when he too gave a return chance, Sohail Tanvir dropping his fourth catch in three matches.

But when Malik and Afridi piled on 63 in 38 balls for Pakistan’s sixth wicket, England looked out for the count.
