Liverpool’s Klopp happy with Europa League progression

Liverpool’s manager says the striker must be aware of the difference between pain and serious pain after the striker’s latest injury setback.

The 26-year-old has become a familiar name on the injury list over the past year due to a series of injury problems which have severely curtailed his first-team involvement.

Liverpool became the second English side to book their place in the last 32 of the Europa League on Thursday night, following Tottenham into the knockout stages courtesy of a 2-1 comeback win against Bordeaux.

“The situation is Daniel has been very often injured in the last months and years”.

“They did well but we knew [about them] before and that it can be hard to defend against them, so you have to be better with the ball and then they cannot do this”.

“Daniel is coming closer and closer so he can train now seven or eight times in a row – that is the longest period since I’ve been here – and that will help him and in the end help us”, Klopp said.

“I am very happy to be qualified, the team is happy to be qualified, the club is happy to be qualified so you can be happy to be qualified if you want”.

“When Daniel Sturridge is fit and firing, Sergio Aguero is the only striker who is better than him in the Barclays Premier League”. Lucas has spoken warmly of Klopp in the media and the German returned the compliment in his pre match press conference. He’s always at the door, saying: ‘Give me 10 minutes, give me five minutes.’ I like this, but it’s not always the best thing to do.

“What you need in times like this is training”. Players like Hendo have to be fit, not only 50 per cent. “When in that shape we can use him”, he continued.

Klopp’s slight dig at Sturridge is in stark contrast to how he dealt with questions about club captian Jordan Henderson’s battle to regain fitness.

Daniel Sturridge has frustrated just about every boss he has played under.. They made a goal, we got a penalty so it was an open game again.

“I don’t know too much about the situation because it was in the afternoon after training – not what I saw as we trained in two groups and I was with the starting line-up”, he said. “We have to decide”.
