Authorities in Alaska’s capital city on Tuesday were investigating the mysterious death of Juneau’s new mayor and trying to tamp down intrigue swirling around the case.

Police say in a statement that 70-year-old Stephen “Greg” Fisk’s adult son discovered his father’s body inside his Juneau home. No other details on the circumstances surrounding Fisk’s death were released. “There could’ve been a fall, there’s lots of things that would cause it”.
The mayor of Alaska’s capital was found dead just weeks after he took office.
“It’s not clear what the cause of those injuries are”, she said.
Police said rumors that Fisk had been assaulted were mere “speculation”. He included assault is “one of the chances out there, but there is others which could have occurred”.
Kalwara says Fisk had appointments scheduled Monday, and when he missed them, his son, Ian Fisk, checked on him. Police spokeswoman Erann Kalwara said investigators were hopeful the report would be completed in a couple of days.
According to the Juneau Empire, a group of people placed candles in the middle of a public sculpture not far from Fisk’s home.
Neighbors of Fisk’s – Don and Janet Kussart – said they never heard a disturbance or anything that clued them into an assault unfolding at the mayor’s house.
Police still haven’t determined what caused Fisk’s death.
“He has some stairs, some very steep stairs going up to a loft so I wouldn’t be surprised, just speculating, that he might have fallen down those stairs”, Hebert said.
Police have ruled out suicide, she said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Fisk was a former fisheries specialist for Alaska’s commerce department and was a longtime civic activist. She described Fisk as a longtime family friend. When he asked King to be his campaign chairman, King didnt give Fisk much of a chance but helped out in minor ways, he said. Fisk ended up taking almost two-thirds of the vote.
Deputy Mayor Mary Becker will fill in for Fisk until an election is held.

“I think this was a bad day for all of Juneau”, said Jill Ramiel, Downtown Business Association president.
