Best airlines of the year named by AirlineRatings.com

AirlineRatings said Air New Zealand was awarded for the third consecutive year for “its continuous award winning passenger innovations, environmental commitment, record-breaking financial performance, operational safety and motivation of its staff that have cemented the airline an industry trendsetter”.

Air New Zealand, judged the world’s best airline for the third consecutive year.

The airline also won the website’s awards for best premium and best economy classes.

Best Premium Economy Airline: Air New Zealand’s SpaceSeats are designed for couples to sit together, talk facing each other and share meals.

Both Air New Zealand and Air China will celebrate their new alliance service to Beijing on December 10.

Best First Class Airline: Newcomer Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways has stirred the luxury pot with its First Class offerings.

In addition to the top 10 airlines list, AirlineRatings.com has named Delta Air Lines as the best long haul carrier for the Americas, Etihad Airways for the Middle East and Africa, Cathay Pacific Airways for Asia-Pacific and Lufthansa for Europe.

Scooping three awards, Qantas, has been awarded Best Domestic Airline Service, Best Catering and Best Lounges.

Best Inflight Entertainment: Singapore Airlines, has been recognised for its IFE technology since the early 90’s.

For value and safety in the Low Cost Airline sector the AirlineRatings.com team gave the honors to Virgin America (Americas), Norwegian (Europe), Kulula.com (Africa/Middle-East) and Scoot for Asia/Pacific.

Best New World Carrier: Virgin Australia – The carrier blends low cost excellence with a modern first class product.

Taiwan’s EVA Air, Virgin Atlantic and Virgin Australia, Japan’s All Nippon Airways and Cologne-based Lufthansa were all also in the top ten.
