According to CNN, a woman who was at the home during the domestic dispute suffered minor injuries.

Shetler told police he fired only because someone shot at him first, and that he didn’t know Reed was an officer, investigators wrote in a criminal complaint.

State Trooper Stephen Limani said in a press conference Monday Reed waas uniformed, identified himself and arrived in a marked police auto with another uniformed officer.

“He was a dedicated officer, down to earth”, Held said.

Ms. Luther told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that she called police when Mr. Shetler became destructive during an argument and she wanted officers to remove him from the residence at 131 Ligonier St. Mr. Shetler had his hunting rifle with him, she said.

This story has been corrected to show that Shetler is in custody, not under arrest, and a warrant will be obtained Sunday for his arrest.

Officer Reed, a police veteran with more than 25 years experience – including 5 years with the St. Clair Township Police Department – was pronounced dead after he was taken to be treated at an area hospital.

The man accused having shot Reed to death is Ray Allen Shetler Jr, who then fled the scene of the crime, Limani added.

Gov. Wolf ordered flags to be flown at half-staff on all state buildings in the slain officer’s honor.

Porter said she was trying to find out more details. They were not permitted to see him, she said, when they went to the hospital where he was undergoing treatment for a gunshot wound.
