SCO grants full membership to Pakistan
“This is among the four reasons, based on which I should say the seventh BRICS summit is a complete success”, said Zhang Jun, Director General of Department of worldwide Economic Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to reporters in Ufa. He wants to show that Russian Federation has not been weakened by Western sanctions over its role in the Ukraine crisis.

The SCO met a day after a summit of the BRICS countries, a grouping which India is also part of.
The prime minister noted that India has been “actively participating in SCO activities that are open to observers”.
It is also hoped that the accession of India and Pakistan to the SCO may help to ease the tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
The meeting of the five leaders of the BRICS countries – Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa – in Ufa, Russia, is “seen as vitally important to strengthen relations among the nations”. “We believe that terrorist threats can be effectively addressed through a comprehensive implementation by states and the worldwide community of all their commitments and obligations arising from all relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council and the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, said the BRICS Declaration”.
Leaders of Shanghai Cooperative Organization (SCO) member countries on Friday agreed to jointly address challenges to their national security and laid out a framework to deepen their economic, social and political cooperation.
During his meeting with XI, Modi “strongly” and “clearly” conveyed concerns to him over China blocking a proposal for action by the United Nations against Pakistan on the release of jailed Mumbai attack mastermind Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi.
Joining a group that includes energy producers such as Kazakhstan and Russian Federation may have been a strong incentive for the two countries to join.
Membership in the group potentially offers India greater access to the energy resources of Central Asia.
SCO leaders reached consensus on a number of issues in Ufa, including the fight against terrorism and maintaining stability in Afghanistan, according to Guoping.
“India has projected an appointment and Pakistan has unquestionably saw it”, the orator said. “In (the) SCO, India and Pakistan wouldn’t be dominant powers – China and Russian Federation would retain that title”, he said.
