The Daily Show Cancels Chris Brown Appearance

Chris Brown is infamous for violently assaulting his then-girlfriend, the pop singer Rihanna, and then pleading guilty to it in 2009. “Our sources confirmed that Noah brought up such a possibility during an all-hands meeting on Monday afternoon”. At the time, Brown tweeted that he had hoped to use his tour to show “that mistakes don’t define you” and to “prevent spousal abuse”.

Noah has firsthand experience with the horrors of domestic violence (The host’s ex-stepfather was arrested for shooting his mother while Noah was still a child.), and many believed that he would be uniquely qualified to conduct such an interview.

Daily Show” staffers said that Brown’s booking on the show became a cause for concern backstage, possibly due to his well-documented history with violence.

A Comedy Central representative told Mic in a statement that guests slated to appear “are always subject to change”, adding that “the show hopes to reschedule Chris for a future appearance”. Noah, it seems, lost the fight to get him on the show. The cancellation came a day after a report appeared claiming that some of the show’s staffers were uncomfortable with the singer appearing on the program.

Nick Cannon was the guest on Tuesday night’s The Daily Show, but he wasn’t supposed to be.

Washington Post noted that even though TV Guide and cable systems had Brown listed as the night’s special guest, Noah opened the show by announcing that Nick Cannon would be sitting with him instead. “I had no clue how big this show was… if I had known, I would not have been so confident signing on”.
