“I am happy that a big club want our player – this is because they show they are a top player with top performances”, Pochettino was quoted as saying by British media. You would start thinking they can get top four, especially with the way the Premier League has gone this season.
Tottenham will be looking for more of the same when they welcome Chelsea to White Hart Lane on Sunday in a London derby.
Tune into talkSPORT from 12pm on Sunday for EXCLUSIVE live commentary of Tottenham v Chelsea!
However, in a recent report in the Guardian about Mauricio Pochettino, journalist David Hytner reveals that not only was Austin deemed too expensive for Tottenham last summer, he was summarily rejected from consideration by first team coach Mauricio Pochettino.
Tottenham on the other hand have been doing a lot better than expected.
Chelsea have won one of their last seven away league games (L5 D1) and just one of their last nine league trips to White Hart Lane (D4 L4).
The Blues have conceded 23 goals so far this term, compared to just 32 for the entire 2014/2015 Premier League campaign. But it might be different with Kane, and he might be different – and decide that he wants to stay for a while.
The 26-year-old was part of the Belgium squad that was due to host Spain in Brussels last Tuesday before the game was called off due to security fears – and the Belgian capital is still essentially on lockdown as the authorities attempt to protect the public.
“For us, it is a very important game”, Pochettino said of the Group J clash.
Chelsea have struggled to find a player to lead the line this season, with Diego Costa failing to find his best form.
“I would like to say publicly that both myself and David Gold have an excellent relationship with Daniel and we greatly admire the job he has done at his club”.
“Everyone is really happy and going for it at the moment”, he said. The main aim for us this season was to try and get top four.
“If you look at the context it’s a good point, but even with the tiredness in our side we were better than them”, Lloris told Tottenham’s website.

Although Sherwood’s tenure came to an abrupt end he was credited with the introduction of several youth players to Spurs’ first-team fold, including Harry Kane and Ryan Mason.
