At the petrol station in the West Bank, on the side of a road regularly used by Israelis to drive between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, a Palestinian stabbed two Israelis, killing one of them, before he was shot dead by soldiers.

Tensions have soared since September.

Over the past two months, at least 89 Palestinians have been killed in unrest as well as 19 Israelis and an American student.

“Such a family is aware of the fact that one of its members is a radical, and anyone who is about to [carry out an] attack – such a family has no right to work in Israel”, Netanyahu said. He traveled back three months later during warfare between Israel and Hamas militants in Gaza.

Showing no signs of softening, Netanyahu told Kerry that Israel would fight “every hour” against those committing and inciting violence, linking his government’s efforts to the global campaign against the Islamic State group and other extremist forces. Another woman was lightly wounded during the attempt to stop the Palestinian attacker.

In another attack, a 16-year-old Palestinian was shot dead when trying to stab an Israeli soldier near Huwara south of Nablus.

“There can be no peace when we have an onslaught of terror, not here, not anywhere else”, Netanyahu said.

Israeli police say two Palestinian women stabbed an Israeli man with scissors in a central Jerusalem marketplace before they were shot by an officer.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Ayyam highlighted remarks made by Permanent Observer of Palestine to the United Nations Riyad Mansour, on behalf of President Mahmoud Abbas, in NY on the occasion of the “International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People”, who said that the status quo in the occupied Palestinian Territory is no longer sustainable, stressing that the only way out of [the current cycle of violence] is through the administration of justice.

A Palestinian assailant was also killed in an attempted stabbing in the northern West Bank, the military said.

Mr Netanyahu also said security checks on Palestinian vehicles would be stepped up across the West Bank.

America’s broader concerns are the same and Kerry nearly surely pressed both sides in private to avoid provocative actions.

Shabib noted that Obama has clearly stated that “Palestinians and Israelis won’t reach a comprehensive final status agreement in the remainder of his term”, which eliminates hope of any serious and meaningful peace process in the region.

Last month, a U.S. State Department spokesman said that while Israel had a right and responsibility to protect its citizens, he cited reports “of what many would consider excessive use of force”. But the rising death toll seems to have created an environment that makes a similar commitment by President Barack Obama unlikely.

Abbas, who believes a deal with Netanyahu is impossible, has provided no indication that he wants to restart direct peace talks anytime soon.

Israel has already adopted the controversial policy of demolishing the homes of attackers which it says acts as a deterrent.

The Palestinians say the violence is rooted in frustration over almost a half century of Israeli occupation and lack of hope for obtaining independence.
