BAGHDAD (AP) – Police in Iraq’s capital, Baghdad, say a suicide auto bombing at a security checkpoint has killed eight people, including five civilians.
Police says there were three roadside bombs explosions targeting military convoy southeast of Baghdad.
“The Peshmerga troops, backed by artillery and US-led coalition aircraft, repelled the attacks and forced the terrorists to retreat, killing at least 30 of them”, Kirkuki said. A auto bomb exploded near a crowded market and as police and bystanders gathered, a suicide bomber set off explosives strapped to his body.
A vehicle bomb in Bunouk, a district in the capital’s north east, killed a further nine people.
More than 100 people were wounded in the three explosions, according to Reuters.
No one immediately claimed responsibility for this attack.
A local hospital official corroborated the casualty figure.

Clashes have frequently erupted between Iraqi forces and Daesh militants since June a year ago, when the armed group seized the northern Mosul province and other Iraqi territories.
