The career of golf superstar Tiger Woods appears to be over after he admitted he had “no idea” if and when he would return from a third operation on his back.

True, Woods has been written off by a lot of people, but he never, ever used to sound like he was writing off himself, as he did at times during his press conference Tuesday. Asked the degree to which he can function, Woods said, “I walk”. OK, so that last quote was in reference to Kobe Bryant announcing his retirement from basketball, but it also applies to the 14-time major champion, who will turn 40 at the end of this month. And now he can’t play well, poorly or at all, which has to be especially galling as he watches 20-somethings like Jason Day, Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth dominate the way he did not long ago.
