A spokesman from the Met Office said: “Heavy rain is expected to develop early on Saturday and persist into Sunday”.
Experts are predicting up to 80mm of rainfall and southwesterly gales of up to 70mph.
Gale force winds and heavy rain are expected to sweep into Cornwall later on Thursday. This may result in some branches or trees being brought down.
A Met Office spokeswoman said: “South-westerly gales or severe gales are expected to affect much of Scotland and Northern Ireland during the second half of Friday”.
“Southwesterly winds will gust 45 to 55mph quite widely across the area, with the risk of more than 70 miles per hour on coasts and hills”.
There is also a yellow warning of wind for Saturday, with strong winds set to batter Wales and Northern England.
In the announcement from the Met Office it states that the weather will remain calm and clear today but an area of low depression is heading for the country from the south, expecting to hit tomorrow afternoon.
