Nonetheless, the Newcastle hierarchy are said to have placed their vote of confidence in McClaren and will hand him a bit more time to turn things around.
McClaren recalled Mike Williamson from a loan spell at Wolves this week and it is thought he was considering dropping captain Fabricio Coloccini for Sunday’s visit of Liverpool. I don’t know what is happening after.
The Newcastle United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are not at all surprised by the board demanding that players leave the club, and are fearful that no one will want to pay the fees wanted by their club for underperforming players.
Gouffran joined the club in January 2013 from Bordeaux, and he scored three goals in the second half of that season as the club successfully fought off the threat of relegation.
Harry Redknapp has publicly denied rumours that he will replace Steve McClaren as Newcastle United manager.
But Redknapp has given his backing to McClaren, who he briefly worked with at Queens Park Rangers.
Redknapp took to Twitter to write: “Not heard anything about Newcastle, they’ve got a great manager in Steve”.
