Jurgen Klopp Cool About Liverpool’s League Cup Draw

Liverpool continued their incredible run of form on the road on Wednesday at St Mary’s when they absolutely trounced Southampton 6-1 to advance to the next round of the League Cup.

Clyne is the closest player to Klopp for half of every match and says he can hear the German’s instructions clearly above the sound of the crowd.

“There was no physical reaction from Jordan and Daniel so that’s good news”, he said. Liverpool have won their last three matches and six of their last seven to take them up to sixth in the Premier League table and through to the knockout phase of the Europa League. It’s not by chance that they have good results.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of the game, Klopp said: “We cannot ignore that this game could have overtime; 120 minutes would be too much for both [Sturridge and Henderson]”.

“That’s my responsibility. Maybe we have to change the system, maybe we have to play more defensively, more back, waiting”.

Ronald Koeman’s Saints wasted no time in getting to grips with the League Cup, hammering MK Dons 6-0 away from home on a chilly September evening.

Ibe showed similar precision in the 73rd minute, chesting down Moreno’s cross to find a low finish and Origi converted Brad Smith’s centre to seal Liverpool’s place in the semi-finals of a competition they last won in 2012.

“To go to a final would be interesting”. We have to think about Southampton. Victory would give the south coast club their first League Cup semifinal appearance in 29 years, and would be even sweeter against a side that have used Southampton as something akin to a feeder club in recent times. It was a little bit better for the first 20 minutes after half-time but we didn’t get the goal and in the last 20 minutes it was my responsibility. Newcastle have reason to worry on the best of days this season, but like their fellow relegation battlers Chelsea experienced a few weeks ago, they’ve now got extra reason to fear the arrival of the Reds. “[Dusan] Tadic is hard to play against”.

“We want to keep the momentum we have gained”, he added.

“They know more about us since the game at Anfield and we know more about them”.

Southampton switched to a back three at half-time, Victor Wanyama dropping back between the centrebacks, but although they initially succeeded in keeping Liverpool at arm’s length, it did not last.
