Cadiz said in a statement that the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) confirmed receipt of their appeal on Thursday and that the RFEF will allow a period of time for Real Madrid to present their defence.

Rafael Benitez revealed Real Madrid were unaware Denis Cheryshev was ineligible to play during their 3-1 Copa del Rey victory over Cadiz in a blunder that could see them thrown out of the competition.

“We acted in good faith, as soon as we found out we took him off”. Let us know in the comments section below.

In September, the federation disqualified Osasuna from the Copa del Rey for fielding an ineligible player who carried over a suspension from the previous season.

The competition committee is expected to give its ruling on Friday.

Madrid director Emilio Butragueno said he had spoken to the federation and was told that a competition judge would have the final decision on the club’s fate.

Barca’s fine form continued as Sandro Ramirez scored a hat-trick as the Catalans swept aside third-tier Villanovense 6-1 to book their place in the last 16.

Dani Alves’s dipping long range effort which took Villanovense ‘keeper Jose Antonio Fuentes by surprise opened the floodgates after just four minutes.

The second leg is due to be played in Madrid on December 16.

Both Ramirez and Munir El Haddadi failed to score in the two months that they shared deputising for Messi whilst the Argentine was sidelined by a knee ligament injury recently.

Cheryshev scored three minutes into the first leg of the last-32 tie, but was substituted amid confusion nearly immediately after the second half kicked off as it emerged he should not have been playing in the game.
