Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Gets a Face-Lift – PickupTrucks.com News

Some dealers, truck enthusiasts and journalists questioned whether the Silverado’s 2014 redesign went far enough.

Chevrolet’s current-generation Silverado 1500 was all-new for 2014 but the full-size pickup has already come in for a substantial update, confirming the competitive environment in which the big, burly workhorse operates. The newly-configured full size truck will feature a new front end look on the outside and new technology on the inside. Ford Motor Co. late previous year launched a newly designed 2015 Ford F-150 pickup that features an aluminum body and is up to 700 pounds lighter. Deliveries of the F series, including super duties and the redesigned 2015 F-150, have dropped 2.4 percent and Ram volume has climbed 4.3 percent. Only higher trim levels, such as the Z71 version seen in the photos, will receive the two rows of LED accent lighting.

The lower fascia has also been redesigned and features smaller vertical fog lights.

Although it doesn’t look like there will be any significant powertrain or undercarriage changes, it is possible the 2016 models will include some trim package additions and adjustments. For the 2016 model year, the Chevrolet Silverado also adds an available eight-speed automatic transmission across the 1500 range. The eight-speed had previously been limited to trucks powered by Chevy’s 6.2L V8. Regardless, this midmodel design refresh – along with new available driver connection technology like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay – should give new buyers a few more good reasons to feel like they have something unique. GMC spokesman Brian Goebel said GMC is not yet releasing any information about the 2016 model.
