Psychonauts 2 announced at The Game Awards, crowdfunded via Double Fine’s Fig

Double Fine will also be opening up the investment options to regular backers, a first for Fig, offering them the same investment opportunities as their accredited counterparts.

Unlike most crowdfunding campaigns, Double Fine’s campaign allows fans to become investors in Psychonauts 2, which makes them eligible for a share of any profit the game makes.

The sequel will be developed in house by the award winning team at Double Fine Productions, with Tim Schafer as project lead, alongside original collaborators including co-writer Erik Wolpaw, artists Peter Chan, Scott Campbell, and Nathan Stapley, composer Peter McConnell, voice actors Richard Horvitz and Nicki Rapp, and voice director Khris Brown. “We’ve had an art jam and figured out locations, but it’s still in the early design phase”.

Schafer didn’t say how much he expects the sequel to cost in total, but mentioned the original game cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $13 million to produce. The game will simply be called Psychonauts 2. If we live in a just and caring world. Persson later said in 2013 the game would cost $18 million to make. “Once we get that, like we did with Broken Age, Double Fine will be pitching in a bunch of our own money – and then we are also working with an external partner, who hasn’t announced their involvement yet”.

In Psychonauts 2, Raz realizes his dream and visits Psychonauts Headquarters.
